CLARA Y LA PENUMBRA/THE ART OF MURDER

I come today with a thrilling novel, a mixture of sci-fi and art, fairly awarded with different prizes such as Fernando Lara Award in 2001. José Carlos Somoza, in The Art of Murder, raises the sci-fi genre to its highest level. It also has a well concocted policial plot, excellently written. However, it's not a simple work but, from my point of view, it possesses the complexity of art works.  And talking about art, the art works are those which appear as a white canvass, where the author develops characters and a whole world of tension and sacrifice. He also critizes the art industry, selfish and mean, worried only about profitability. The hyperdramatism, which is the art of showing human art-works, is the main key of this book. The author makes a surprising accurate description of how a human art-work feels. He also deeps into the art to discover the essence of it. What can feel a human canvass when it becomes an art-work? That's unimaginable until you read this book. I enjoyed Clara, the main character, as well as all the tiny details that give life to an unexisting work. At least for now.

THE ART OF MURDER, by JOSÉ CARLOS SOMOZA

In 2006, the art world has moved far beyond sheep in formaldehyde and the most avant-garde movement is to use living people as artwork.
Many beautiful young men and women long to become a 'canvas' - knowing they are a masterpeice and worth millions seems to make all the sacrifices worthwhile - especially if they can be 'painted' by the celebrated artist Bruno Van Tysch. But there is also a darker side to this art movement...
