INTEGRIDAD/HONESTY

Es difícil hoy en día encontrar a personajes de la esfera pública que sean honestos, que vivan su vida conforme a sus ideas y no se dejen eclipsar por el poder y el dinero. Esta falta de coherencia entre lo que predican y lo que viven es una constante que el resto de los mortales no entiende pero, desgraciadamente, ha ido aceptando. El hecho de que uno de ellos muestre que es posible tener integridad moral, da un respiro para la esperanza. Javier Marías nos ha demostrado, con su rechazo al Premio Nacional de Narrativa, que además de ser un gran escritor, es un hombre coherente con sus ideas. Ese premio se lo han otorgado por su novela Los Enamoramientos pero me gustaría sugeriros como lectura la primera del autor que tuve entre mis manos.

Nowadays, it's difficult to find a honest public person, well-known people who lead their lives according to their principles, people who are not outshone by power and money. This lack of coherence between what they declare and how they live is a constant that most of us don't understand but, unfortunately, accept. The fact that one of them shows that it's possible to be honest give us a breather. Javier Marías has shown that is an excellent writer and a coherent man by rejecting the Spanish National Narrative Prize. He received it for The Infatuations  but I would like to suggest you the first novel I read written by him.
