IRA/WRATH

¿Es similar la crisis del 29 a la que ahora sufrimos? A niveles económicos, macroeconómicos, o como quieran llamarlo, puede. Pero en aquella los que se tiraban por la ventana eran los banqueros mientras que ahora lo hacen los que fueron engañados por los bancos. ¿Andaremos el camino del futuro como lo hicieron los protagonistas de aquella otra crisis? Tampoco hay certezas. Pero creo que sí hay algo que aquellos y nosotros compartimos: la búsqueda de la justicia y la dignidad humanas en un momento de profunda injusticia social y económica.

Is our crisis similar to the crash of 1929? It may be in an economic or macroeconomic aspect. But in that crisis the bankers jumped from the windows and now the victims are persons previously cheated by the banks. Will we walk the same road than them? No certainty at all. But I believe that there is something they and us share: the search of justice and human dignity in a moment of deep social and economic injustice.

It is the story of a ruined family and their trip to the promised land, a place that offers best live conditions. Steinbeck knows how to go beyond propaganda or moralising aspects by creating deep characters who fight and denounce the power abuse and the ruthless cruelty and the abandond suffered by the poorest.
